Hello Sandra!
I like the beautifull pictures of your area.
Is "Serra" (in your name) the same like the family name here in southern Italy?
Comment:
Dear Claudia, thank you so much for your kind comment. Yes, my paternal grandfather and grandmother are from Terrasini, an oceanside village outside of Palermo, Sicily. Two Serra brothers, Frank (Francesco, my grandfather) and Salvatore moved here to the US, Detroit, Michigan about 1917. Their first visit to the States was when they were young boys with my Great-Grandfather Filippo; and then they came alone (sponsored by a cousin in Detroit we presume). The two Serra brothers married two Corollo sisters, Grace (Grazia, my Grandma) and Catherine (Caterina) - they were married in a double wedding ceremony in 1917. Grandma was born in Terrasini, but my Great-Grandpa Antonio Corollo moved them to Tabarka, Tunesia, Africa. He was a shipbuilder. I guess we have a lot of family still in Sicily and Paris, France. Here there are quite a few Serras; and a few migrated to North Carolina, Virginia, California, and Florida.

Translation by the Webmaster:
I found a link to this Web site in Haro's Alonisos Album (http://www.alonisos.net.tc) and thought I could drop by. Very nice! Too bad I can't read the excerpt from the book.
I have relatives on the Canadian shore of Whitefish Bay. Maybe I'll come to visit your area some day. Looks like it's worth while.

Madeline in the Fog is fabulous as are your other shots of our glorious county. Thanks for reminding me to look around in my every day travels. Going to stop and smell those roses as soon as they appear. Happy day to you.

Keep up the great work promoting northern Michigan through your website and writings. Photo Gallery is my favorite.
